Musical Goals for 2019/2020 School Year

Musical Goals

With leaves beginning to drop, our singing and piano students are setting their musical goals for the 2019/2020 school year. Students studying classical voice or piano may choose to opt to enroll in a Royal Conservatory of Music Exam, or the Cowichan Valley Music Festival. With deadlines approaching throughout the fall months, we thought we would provide you with a bit more information on each to consider whether it is a good fit for your child.

Royal Conservatory of Music Exam:

RCM stands for the Royal Conservatory of Music which is a worldwide music education program for a variety of musical instruments. The RCM education program is designed by grade level for each instrument ranging from preparatory to level 10, with an equivalent practical exam that can be taken at the completion of the grade. This is not only a wonderful performing opportunity, but also builds technical skill to support the student’s talent.

Cowichan Valley Music Festival:

Musical GoalsAnother exciting performance opportunity for students is the Cowichan Valley Music Festival that takes place every February right here in the valley. The music festival is for students studying classical music, wishing to perform (and in some cases compete) against other musicians of their own age level and be adjudicated on their performance.

The music festival is also geared towards students who are studying out of the RCM books and have a passion for performing. These classes are very beneficial as students gain performance practice, while also receiving a written and aural adjudication of their performance. Students benefit immensely by watching other performers and listening to the adjudications of others.

Ready to Set Your Musical Goals?

Registration for both performance opportunities happen throughout the fall months, and it is best to start prepping repertoire early if students are interested in entering either (or both) of these events. If you have more questions or believe that these would be a great musical goal to keep your child motivated throughout the 2019/2020 school year, please do not hesitate to speak to your teacher. We believe wholeheartedly that both are invaluable in creating a more driven and educated musician!
